17 jan 2010 JAIPUR: Police in Bassi have busted a gang of robbers who used to rob truck drivers of their vehicle after beating them up. The police arrested three accused while three others are absconding. The police claimed that the gang had been involved in looting many trucks in the recent past.
According to the police, the three accused are Mustaq Khan (21), Navi Khan alias Hathi (50) and Saiyad Hussain (21), all residents of Mewat in Haryana.
Speaking about their modus-operandi, a police officer said that the accused used to travel in a truck in a group of six on national highways looking for victims.
"On Saturday night, one Pradhan Gujjar was driving his truck on Jaipur-Ajmer national highway when his vehicle was intercepted by the robbers' truck," said the officer. He added that the robbers were chasing the victim's truck from Agra. "The six men entered Pradhan's truck and started beating him up. Then they tied up Pradhan and his helper Lekhraj and looted the truck," said the officer.
A patrolling police car spotted two trucks suspiciously parked near Mohanpura turn. "When the team approached the two trucks, three of the robbers jumped out and fled," said the officer.
He added that Pradhan Gujjar and Lekhraj were rescued and three of the robbers were arrested. Police teams have been sent to nab the other three. "We hope that busting the gang will help in solving many robbery cases with a similar modus-operandi on the national highway. The three men have confessed to being involved in many such robberies and we are interrogating them for further details," said the officer. Meanwhile, truck driver Pradhan Gujjar has lodged an FIR with the Bassi police station against the robbers.
