JODHPUR: Failure to achieve academic expectations claimed one more life in the state. A 25-year-old student who flunked CA-CAT exam committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train in Jodhpur. On January 17, Preeti Das (19) had committed suicide in the same manner in Jaipur when she too failed the exam.
According to the police, the deceased Devesh Bhandari had left his house at about 4.00 pm on Thursday. His body was found on the railway tracks, some 7-8 km from his residence early on Friday morning.
His elder brother, Deepak Bhandari, a sales executive, told TOI that Devesh was outgoing and concerned about his career. Studious in nature, he had completed B Com and M Com (in 2007) with first division. He had cleared CA Inter in the first attempt but could clear the final in two attempts. The results last Sunday disappointed him and possibly failing to come to terms with this he killed himself. He was also awaiting the results of company secretary (CS – Final), which is to be announced in February.
Ashok Sancheti, owner of the company where Devesh was doing his internship, told TOI that Devesh was a sincere student. On Thursday, before he went missing, he had expressed his intention to work as a CS and was advised by Ashok to join any job along with re-attempting CA-CAT.
"His step shocked all of us as he never showed any sign of extreme depression, which could have led him to commit suicide," he said.
