Lawyers seek review of Rajasthan HC judge’s orders

JAIPUR: A group of over 70 lawyers on Wednesday staged a demonstration before the Jaipur bench of Rajasthan High Court seeking a review of the
orders passed by Justice R C Gandhi in the past two years.
Holding placards, which read “Gandhi defamed Gandhi”, the lawyers protested under the banner of Forum For Judicial Accountability, Rajasthan, and cited over 102 orders including a few executive orders that Justice Gandhi had passed in his capacity as the Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court last year. Justice Gandhi is retiring on Thursday.
“We handed over a memorandum to the Chief Justice, Justice Jagdish Bhalla, citing several cases of irregularities committed by Justice Gandhi. The Chief Justice has assured to review the appointment of 21 judicial assistants, which was done by Justice Gandhi on August 10, 2009,” said Ajay Kumar Jain, an advocate who met the CJI along with three other bar members namely P K Sharma, Devki Nandan Sharma and P C Bhandari.
He alleged that Justice Gandhi in his capacity as Acting Chief Justice, indulged in several irregularities of which the appointment of the 21 judicial assistants was the most prominent. “The above were given ad-hoc appointment even before the results of the entrance exams were out. The results, which were declared later, showed that those who were given the appointments had failed, but still their appointments were regularised,” Jain alleged.
