One held for attacking returning officer

JAIPUR/JODHPUR: One person has been arrested by Jodhpur police for attacking a returning officer in Mandore panchayat samiti after the declaration of poll results on Monday.
According to reports, one Sattar Khan was associated with Muse Khan, who was candidate for the post of sarpanch from Rohila Kalan but lost the election by a small difference. After the declaration of results, Khan's supporters demanded recounting. Even after recounting the difference remained the same due to which Khan's supporters got irked.
SP (Rural) Sharat Kaviraj told TOI that the agitated supporter alleged that the returning officer D K Charan favoured his opponent to ensure his victory. On Monday, supporters came to the polling booth to fill the form when polling for the post of upsarpanch was going on. On seeing the RO in the polling booth, they attacked him and the polling staff, in which RO sustained serious injuries and was taken to MDM hospital.
Jodhpur police said that a case was registered by the zonal officer, Bhanwar Singh at Jhanwar police station under sections 147, 332, 353, 307, 427, 382 and 149 of IPC and Sattar Khan has been arrested.
In another incident, supporters of a defeated candidate in panchayat polls in Dholpur turned violent and attacked the polling party injuring one sub-inspector. According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday late night in Dulara panchayat, after the declaration of result of panch and sarpanch polls.
Police said the supporters of the defeated candidate Munni Devi went on the rampage and opened fire and pelted stones at police and polling party. The mob damaged a police jeep and a bus, beat up policemen and snatched a loaded service revolver. During the violence, a sub-inspector, Mevaram sustained injuries. A case has been registered at Mania police station.
