75 candidates with no voters here

JAIPUR: A gram panchayat in Railmagara panchayat samiti in Rajsamand district has three wards with no voters, however, there were 75 candidates in the fray.
Election commission officials said Mainduriya panchayat ward numbers 8 , 11 and 16 have no voters enrolled though wards were still in existence. However the state election commission had to conduct the polls as these were still in existence.
"Since there were candidates we had to conduct the elections. All the contesting candidates are from outside. Since all of them naturally received zero votes in order to break the tie, we had to decide the winning candidate by lot," said an official.
Election officials said the residential areas of these wards were acquired by the government for some projects. However, as no delimitation of the panchayat wards was held before the elections these wards were still in existence according to the records.
