15-year-old schoolgirl escapes kidnap bid

JAIPUR: A Class X student of Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls School escaped from an abductor two hours after she was forced into a car near her house in Vaishali Nagar. The incident occurred on Saturday night.
According to the police, the 15-year-old was standing in front of her house when the accused, who is known to her family members, came in a Skoda car and forced her into it. However, he dropped her some distance away when police contacted him on his mobile phone.
The relatives of the girl, who witnessed the incident, tried to chase the car but the accused allegedly fired at them and sped away. The police are yet to nab the accused.
“The victim, Divya Singh, was standing in front of her house around 8 pm when the accused reached there in his car. First he asked the girl to get into the car. When she refused, he forced her into it,” said Indra Singh, an officer investigating the case. He confirmed that the girl is an MGD student.
The kidnapper, 24-year-old Mahaveer Singh, a native of Nagaur district, is known to the family members of the victim as he lives in his sister’s house in the neighbourhood.
According to police, Mahaveer Singh fired at the victim’s family members including her father Himmat Singh, but the bullet missed them. The police arrived at the spot and were given the mobile number of the accused by the victim’s family members.
“When we contacted him on his mobile, he said the girl would return home in an auto. Later, he himself dropped her at Khatipura junction, a few metres away from her house at around 10 pm. She walked to her house,” said the officer.
“Mahaveer Singh has been booked under Sections 365 (kidnap) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC. A search has been launched to nab him,” the officer added.
