Jaisalmer Folklore Museum
Jaisalmer is named after its founder Rawal Jaisal (see History). Jaisalmer means the Hill Fort of Jaisal. Jaisalmer is also called as the Golden city of India because the yellow sand gives a yellowish-golden touch to the city & its surrounding area. visit to Jaisalmer would remain incomplete if you miss seeing the excellent collection of art, artifacts and mementos of the royal past in the Folklore Museum of Jaisalmer. Museums that always give you a glimpse of the microcosmic world of the larger macro is truly enlightening if you propose to study the enchanting land and its varied culture. Situated on the banks of the Garsisar Lake, in Mehar Bagh Garden, Folklore Museum is has the perfect ambience for those interested to check the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan.
The Folklore Museum is divided into six sections making it more organized. The six sections include a coterie of paintings, costumes, jewelery, photographs, camel and horse ornaments and fossils. Established in the year 1984, the museum exhibits the established art of Rajasthan. The initiator, NK Sharma painstakingly collected paintings, old coins, post cards and manuscripts and articles related to the folk and culture of the land for the people to learn more about the art and traditions of Jaisalmer.
Timing: Daily between 8.00 am to 6.00 am
Open: Open on all days of the week.
