16 jan 2010 Jaipur: The Union ministry of environment and forest has decided to put a brake on all development projects that need a clearance from it in the cities of Bhiwadi, Jodhpur and Pali in Rajasthan. Jaipur, too, will face some curbs.
Projects in the pipeline for environmental clearance or those received henceforth will be returned to the project proponents, the ministry said in a memorandum on Wednesday.
The ministry's decision follows a study by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in association with the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, on environmental assessment of industrial clusters across the country based on Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI). The index is a measure of the air, water and land pollution of the cluster.
